Sarah Michelle Gellar has joined the cast of “Dexter: Original Sin,” the critically acclaimed prequel series to “Dexter,” onParamount+. Celebrated for “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” Gellar will play Miami Metro Police Department’s CSI Chief Tanya Martin, who will also be the new boss of Patrick Gibson’s character, a young Dexter Morgan.
Showtime’s president of content and CCO, Nina L. Diaz, expressed her enthusiasm at Gellar’s casting, pointing out that she is a pop cultural star who enhances an already stellar cast that includes Patrick Dempsey and Christian Slater. With this, Gellar rejoins the Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios family, adding even more depth to the Dexter franchise’s genesis tale.
“Original Sin” follows Dexter’s journey from a college student to a vengeful serial killer, all set in Miami in 1991. As he battles his evil impulses, Dexter, with the help of his father Harry Morgan (Christian Slater), develops a code to kill people he believes deserve it while eluding capture by the authorities. Dexter begins his career when he begins an internship in forensics at the Miami Metro Police Department.
The Miami Metro Homicide captain, Aaron Spencer, will be portrayed by Patrick Dempsey. Debra Morgan, Dexter’s sister, is portrayed by Molly Brown. The younger incarnations of Angel Batista, Maria LaGuerta, Vince Masuka, and a brand-new character named Bobby Watt will be portrayed by James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, and Reno Wilson, respectively.
In order to instill in Dexter a code of honor for his deadly acts, Christian Slater’s portrayal of Harry Morgan is crucial. This guy, who was first portrayed by James Remar in the series’ flashbacks, will now mentor young Dexter more actively.
Clyde Phillips, the showrunner for several of the strongest seasons of the first “Dexter,” returns for the prequel series. The original series’ Dexter, Michael C. Hall, will not be appearing in “Original Sin” on a regular basis, but he does work with Phillips as an executive producer.
The release date for “Dexter: Original Sin” on Paramount+ has not yet been revealed, but fans of the series should be quite excited about Gellar’s participation and the return of well-loved characters.
