Officially chosen as a torchbearers for the 2024 Paris Olympics is BTS member Jin. Seen at Incheon Airport, the internationally well-known singer was smiling and casually wearing a white t-shirt as he left for France to play this esteemed role. According to a release, Jin will represent South Korea in the Olympic torch relay, an event honouring harmony and peace.
Being among almost 11,000 other torchbearers—including astronauts, well-known athletes, Holocaust survivors, and relatives of Nice terror attack victims—Jin’s involvement in the torch relay is a great honour. With roughly 142 participants competing in 21 sports like badminton, taekwondo, archery, and fencing, South Korea will be sending to the Paris Olympics, which run from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
Though the exact itinerary has not been revealed, the torch relay—which started in April—will carry Jin and the other torchbearers to several historic locations within the host nation. Currently serving their necessary military obligations are Jin’s fellow BTS members, Jungkook, V, Jimin, Suga, RM, and J-Hope.
Shortly after his military discharge, Jin held the yearly BTS debut anniversary party, FESTA, in Seoul in a touching event. The event had culinary samples, performances, and dancing challenges among other things. Jin enlisted in December 2022 and finished his duty by June 2025. A highlight of the FESTA celebrations, he hugged 1,000 lucky admirers in a meet-and-greet event upon his release.
Jin admitted he cried two times and related his emotional experience at the release ceremony during a live session on Weverse. “I told my juniors not to cry because I wouldn’s not be able to hold back my tears if they did, but they ended up sobbing, so there was no way I could not cry,” he said.
Jin also shared the responses his bandmates had to him for being the first to sign up and leave. “The lads were telling me they were very jealous; the management team noted they had never seen such sincere envy in their eyes. I made fun of them about that for almost thirty minutes,” he grinned.
From the BTS ARMY, the news of Jin’s torchbearer appointment has generated great enthusiasm. Celebrating this milestone for Jin, fans posted their pride and delight on social media. Referring to Jungkook’s performance in Qatar, one fan said, “OLYMPICS TORCHBEARER JIN PRIDE OF KOREA JIN JIN AT PARIS OLYMPICS,” while another hoped for more K-pop stars during the Olympics.
Other well-known celebrities will also be present at the Paris Summer Olympics, including Snoop Dogg, who will often report for NBC’s Olympic Primetime Show, so augmenting the worldwide enthusiasm over the tournament.
