Pixar’s highly anticipated sequel, “Inside Out 2,” has made an impressive debut in China, securing the #1 spot at the box office and collecting over $2 million on its opening day. The film, which follows Riley and her emotions as she navigates puberty, has struck a chord with audiences, earning a stellar 9.5-star rating on Maoyan, akin to an A+ CinemaScore.

Released just last Friday, “Inside Out 2” has quickly accumulated significant earnings. On its opening day in China, the film brought in $2.6 million from 81,000 screenings, including $300,000 from last Saturday’s previews. Trade analyst Luiz Fernando reported that the movie has earned $935,000 in pre-sales for Saturday, with 69,000 screenings scheduled as “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” also premieres in China. The film is projected to achieve a $9 million to $12 million debut weekend in China.

The original “Inside Out,” released in 2015 and directed by Pete Docter, introduced audiences to Riley and her family as they moved to San Francisco. The story, which focuses on Riley’s struggle to adapt to her new environment, won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature and resonated deeply with audiences worldwide. The sequel delves into Riley’s journey through puberty, introducing new emotions like Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Boredom, alongside the familiar Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust.

Directed by Kelsey Mann, “Inside Out 2” has performed robustly both domestically and internationally. In the United States, it earned $154.2 million on its opening weekend and has amassed $255.1 million so far in the domestic market. Internationally, the film has garnered $226.7 million, bringing its worldwide total to $481.8 million. It is expected to surpass the $500 million mark by the weekend’s end.

Despite its global success, “Inside Out 2” has seen moderate performance in India. The Hindi-dubbed version, featuring Ananya Panday as Riley, contributed Rs. 2 crore to its first-week collection of Rs. 11.8 crore. As it entered its second week, the film maintained a steady pace, collecting Rs. 91 lakh on Friday, a 7% increase from Thursday’s Rs. 85 lakh, bringing the overall total to Rs. 12.71 crore. While it has performed decently in India, it has not matched its success in other international markets.

Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Diane Lane, and Kyle MacLachlan reprise their roles as Riley’s core emotions. New voices joining the cast include Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Paul Walter Hauser, and Kensington Tallman, adding depth to Riley’s evolving emotional landscape.

“Inside Out 2” has demonstrated remarkable success in several countries. It has earned $45 million in Mexico, $19.7 million in the UK, $18.5 million in Korea, $11.5 million in Germany, and $10.7 million in Argentina. These figures highlight the film’s wide-reaching appeal and its strong emotional connection with audiences worldwide.
