Inside Out 2: An Incredible Success at the Box Office

With its captivating appeal to audiences across the globe, “Inside Out 2” has emerged as the year’s biggest opener. The animated follow-up has done exceptionally well in India, earning ₹7.4 crore in its first three days of release. The movie’s daily profits, which began at ₹1.5 crore on opening day and increased to ₹2.65 crore and ₹3.25 crore over the next several days, demonstrate its increasing popularity. Despite facing competition from other films such as “Munjya” and “Chandu Champion,” “Inside Out 2” enjoyed a strong first weekend.

Sacnilk.com reports that on Sunday, the movie’s English occupancy rate in Indian theaters was a noteworthy 39.82%. The film made a remarkable $155 million during Father’s Day weekend in the United States, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This places “Inside Out 2” as the second-biggest animated movie in North America to launch over a three-day weekend; only Pixar’s “Incredibles 2,” which made a $182.7 million start, can top it.

“Inside Out 2” has also done well internationally. The movie made $140 million abroad after making its premiere in 60% of the global market. This raises its global total to an incredible $295 million, making it the highest-grossing animated picture debut in comparable regions and after accounting for exchange rates.

The movie’s popularity in Latin America is especially significant; it had the second-highest opening ever, after “Avengers: Endgame.” It made $30.2 million in revenue just in Mexico. With $14.9 million and $13.9 million, respectively, South Korea and the United Kingdom are two more important markets.

“Inside Out 2” has garnered significant praise from critics, earning an A CinemaScore and a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Its plot and emotional depth have struck a chord with viewers, as evidenced by its Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 96%—the highest of any Pixar movie. Under Kelsey Mann’s direction, the film adds layers to the story as Riley navigates her adolescent years by introducing additional feelings including anxiety, envy, ennui, and embarrassment. Maya Hawke, Tony Hale, Lewis Black, and Phyllis Smith are among the voice cast members, lead by Amy Poehler.

Thursday night previews brought in $13 million, a testament to the movie’s successful start. This enthusiasm continued into Friday, when estimates swiftly increased from a $90 million initial estimate to $140 million and higher. Disney and Pixar had conservatively estimated earnings of $140 million or more, while rival studios had projected earnings between $140 million and $150 million.

For the first time this year, “Inside Out 2” has not only restored Pixar’s reputation but also helped to increase domestic box office receipts. Sony’s “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” which continued to earn well into its second weekend, provided additional backing for this comeback. Furthermore, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” from 20th Century Fox and Disney and “The Garfield Movie” from Alcon and Sony have done well at the film office, indicating a good trend in box office receipts.

With its current run in theaters, “Inside Out 2” has the potential to become the next big box office hit, following in the footsteps of successful movies like “Barbie.” With its strong box office performance and critical acclaim, “Inside Out 2” is a victorious return for Pixar and sets a high bar for animated movies in 2024.
